Sellman Emterprises Septic Services

Sellman Enterprises is here to help you care for your septic system. We can help you understand how your system works and what steps you can take as a homeowner to ensure your system will work efficiently.

Properly designed, constructed and maintained, your septic system can provide long-term, effective treatment of household wastewater. If your septic system isn’t properly maintained, there’s a greater chance of premature failure leading to unnecessary repair or replacement cost.

Sellman Septic Services provides septic pumping and septic cleaningDid you know that as a homeowner you’re responsible for maintaining your septic system? Did you know that maintaining your septic system protects your investment in your home? Did you know that you should periodically have your system pumped out, cleaned and inspected?

Why, because eventually the solids that accumulate in the septic tank if not pumped out will eventually overflow, accumulate in the drainfield, and clog the pores (openings) in the soil.

This blockage severely damages the drainfield. While some clogging of soil pores slowly occurs even in a properly functioning system, excess solids from a poorly maintained tank can completely close all soil pores so that no wastewater can flow into the soil.

The sewage will then either back up into the house or flow across the ground surface over the drainfield. If this happens, you may need to construct a new drainfield on a different part of your lot. Pumping the septic tank after the soil drainfield has become completely clogged will not rejuvenate the system. It will provide only a few days of use until the tank fills up again.

Stay ahead of potential septic system problems with periodic maintenance from Sellman’s by having your system pumped, cleaned and inspected every 2 to 3 years. Systems with electrical float switches, pumps, or mechanical components may need to be inspected and serviced more often.

How often should I have my septic tank serviced?…

What does "proper working level" mean?…

What does "proper working level" mean?…

ANSWER:   Proper working level is where the water level in your tank meets the outlet T of the tank. As water enters your tank it should push water out of your tank through the outlet pipe. Even after one week of septic pumping service, your septic tank should return to a "proper working level" about 1 foot from the top of the tank. Your septic tank will hold liquid in order for the separation of solids and liquid to happen. Only the liquid (or grey water) should flow out to the leach field pipes.…

What does it mean when it’s wet over my septic?…

ANSWER:   You should contact us if you are experiencing ponding or damp soil of any sort around or near your septic tank or leach field. There are a number of possible reasons for a wet septic. For instance, an over full septic could cause a break out from the cover of the tank. A break in the line from the tank could cause a septic breakout above that area of the pipe.…

What is an aerobic system?…

What is an aerobic system?…

ANSWER:   An aerobic septic system is one that contains a mixer in the tank which will agitate and aspirate the liquid in the tank. This will insert oxygen in the tank which will help keep the live bacteria in the system from dying. Bacteria will flourish and keep eating away at solid matter in the tank to allow for less sludge build up and more grey water in the leach field lines.…
